This was announced today, August 24, by the press center of the SBU.
The attacker turned out to be the director of a department of one of the capital’s insurance companies, whom Russian military intelligence remotely recruited after the start of a full-scale invasion by the aggressor country, the special service notes.
It is noted that the Russian agent, hiding behind the insurance business, initiated personal meetings with the heads of Kyiv power generating enterprises under the pretext of concluding insurance contracts.
But in fact, he used this “topic” as a pretext to get as much information from his interlocutors as possible about the facts and consequences of Russian “arrivals” on Ukrainian critical infrastructure facilities, the SBU notes.
Previously, the attacker was interested in information about the extent of damage and the current technical condition of power plants attacked by the aggressor in Kyiv.
The enemy agent transmitted all the intelligence received through the messenger to his Moscow “curator” – a staff member of the Russian game, – the SBU notes. – Intelligence information was required for the preparation and adjustment of repeated air strikes on the capital’s energy enterprises for the heating season.
The Russian agent was detained at his place of residence in one of the villages in the Kyiv region.
During the search, a mobile phone was found in his possession, which he used in reconnaissance and subversive activities in favor of Russia.
The man was informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code (high treason committed under martial law). He faces a life sentence.
Now he is in custody. An investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime.
