The Government of Canada has appointed a new ambassador to Ukraine. They will be the diplomat Natalia Tsmots. This was announced on August 24 by the press service of the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Foreign Minister Melanie Joly announced the appointment of Natalia Tsmots as Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine. She will replace Larisa Galadza,” the statement said.
The Canadian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the appointment of Tsmots “reflects Canada’s commitment to this important relationship.”
He is an expert on Ukraine and has extensive experience and understanding of Canada’s multilateral support, including the implementation of democracy development programs in Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea, the launch of Operation UNIFIER, and election monitoring of Canada in Ukraine following the 2015 presidential campaign. ..
The newly appointed ambassador speaks Ukrainian and “has deep ties to the Ukrainian community in Ukraine and Canada.”
The Foreign Ministry also added that he will serve as Canada’s “eyes and ears in Kyiv” and ensure that Canada continues to support Ukraine.
Prior to this, Natalia Tsmots served as Director of Science and Parliamentary Networking at the Canadian Department of Public Service, where she moved from the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs. During his career, he worked in the ministries of defense and health, and in 2011-2013. is a technical cooperation adviser at the Canadian Embassy in Ukraine.
