Madame Figaro . – You are a beauty muse in your own way for L’Oréal Paris. This status allows you to be a voice for women. Is there a political dimension in your speeches? What are you fighting against?
Kate Winslet. – As a woman, I think I support the idea of truth and honesty, which suits us well. We are scrutinized, we are always looking for a better version of ourselves, and no doubt we suffer from it. When I grew up, I realized something important. you can’t change who you really are, so you might as well accept it and learn to love yourself, or at least learn to keep your head up. This learning is not easy. Myself, I still get stuck sometimes when I walk into a room full of strangers and they stare at me and I have to talk to everyone. But now a small voice whispers in my ear and says: “Okay, there’s no reason you can’t do it.” Here, simplifying a little, I will say that you should learn to be kind to yourself.
What was the worst period of your acting life?
Without hesitation, in my twenties, when I suddenly became famous Titanic. It was shocking and terrifying at the same time. I had to study at full speed, learn to behave like a celebrity, learn to deal with everything that came my way, when I wasn’t even sure that I deserved what was happening to me. I didn’t feel seasoned or strong enough to face it all: the press, the questions, the speeches. Talk intelligently about everything and nothing. You had to be careful because you weren’t really given a gift back then. The press was very different thirty years ago. Of course, today social networks can be highly toxic, but back then newspapers took care of that. We harshly judged our outfits, our bodies, our weight. It was terrible. But our apprenticeship was difficult, I agree.

You preach “aging gracefully.” In your interviews, you talk a lot about age when you’re not 50. Does the system accept that actresses age?
I remember an interview with a director, whose name I will not mention, with whom I had worked, and who was talking about me.
