The New York Times says that Ukrainian pilots will begin training these fighters in Arizona in the fall.
The Pentagon plans to begin training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets in the United States in September this year. This was reported by the American edition of The New York Times, citing anonymous officials.
Last week, representatives of the US Department of Defense announced that the Americans will begin training Ukrainian pilots if European countries reach their maximum potential in this regard, the media recalls.
Washington’s position on pilot training has now changed. Air Force fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be trained in the United States as soon as Ukraine identifies them.
However, it is not yet known if the pilots originally intended for training programs in Europe will study in the USA, if it will be an additional group.
The NYT says training decisions could be officially announced today, August 24.
“The pilots will first receive English language training in Texas and then begin months of flight training in Arizona,” an unidentified US official told the publication.
As we have already written, the Netherlands announced that they will provide Ukraine with 42 F-16 fighters. In turn, Denmark will provide 19 aircraft, six of them by the end of this year.
In addition, Greece will also take part in the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets.
