Irish parliamentarians have called on countries around the world to maintain and strengthen anti-Russian sanctions.
On June 1, the Irish Senate adopted a resolution recognizing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as genocide. This was announced on Twitter by the speaker of the upper house of the Parliament of Ireland Mark Daley.
“The illegal invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine is an act of genocide. The Irish Senate has adopted a resolution on the genocide of the Russian Federation in Ukraine,” the politician wrote.
The adopted resolution states that “Russia’s military actions meet the genocide standards established by the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.”
The Irish Senate has called on countries around the world to maintain and strengthen sanctions against the Russian Federation, which is trying to stop Russia’s import of energy resources.
The document also states that Russia’s political leadership should be held accountable for war crimes in Ukraine.

Earlier, the parliaments of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Canada recognized Russia’s military actions in Ukraine as genocide.
