The aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine underlines the limitation of the UN Security Council, said Luis Inacio Lula da Silva.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva believes the world has returned to a Cold War mentality. He said this at the BRICS summit on August 23, recalling the war in Ukraine and other conflicts, reports CNN Brasil.

“In just a few years, we have retreated from a good multipolar scenario to a scenario that has returned to an old Cold War mentality and geopolitical competition,” the Brazilian leader insisted.

He called the current situation “stupidity that breeds uncertainty.” Lula da Silva added that Russia’s war in Ukraine “underlines the limitation of the UN Security Council.”

“The current major conflict taking place in Ukraine has global implications (…) We do not underestimate the difficulties in achieving peace. Nor can we remain indifferent to the deaths, which are increasing every day. We are ready join efforts that can effectively contribute to the end of the fire and a just and strong peace,” said the politician.

Earlier, Lula da Silva said that neither Kyiv nor Moscow was “ready for peace.”
