The leaders of the border services are considering the situation that will arise if a political decision is made to completely close the border with Belarus and the Russian Federation.
The heads of the Border Guard Services of Lithuania Rustamas Lyubaevas, Latvian Guntis Pujats and Poland Tomasz Praga held talks about a possible threat to Belarus and the closing of borders. This was reported by the State Border Guard Service of Lithuania, reports European reality.
The parties considered the situation that would arise if a political decision was made to completely close the border between Belarus and Russia, and discussed possible scenarios and algorithms of action. We also discussed ways and channels for the exchange of operational information between the three countries.
The negotiations between the heads of the border services of Lithuania, Latvia and Poland took place before the meeting of the Interior Ministers of the Baltic States and Poland, which will be held in Warsaw on August 28.
To recall, Lithuania announced the temporary closure of two of the six border crossings with Belarus from August 18. The country is also discussing the possibility of closing the remaining Lithuanian-Belarusian border crossings.
It was also reported that the mobilization of border service workers was announced in Latvia in connection with the need to strengthen the protection of the state’s external border. Poland will strengthen the border with Belarus with ten thousand soldiers.
