This is the third time in world history that an initiative to create mixed medical boards will be introduced. This will help free Ukrainian captives and help the enemy return their captives. This was stated on August 22 by Andrey Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense and the Coordinating Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, Military Media Center reports.
Medical boards will be formed from three doctors. One medic will represent the country containing the prisoners. The other two doctors will be from neutral countries.
Ukraine is a democratic country that respects international law. We are obliged to ensure proper treatment of all prisoners of war, regardless of their nationality, Yusov emphasized.
The authorities expect the Russian Federation to approve a similar decision for the exchange of wounded prisoners of war.
Recall that in June Ukraine returned 95 people from Russian captivity – military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard and border guards. Among them are 93 privates and sergeants and two officers. Many military men were in captivity wounded.
