As the reason for this recommendation, the embassy cited the recent decision of Lithuania to close two checkpoints on the border with Belarus and the statement of Lithuania, Latvia and Poland that these countries are considering the possibility of completely closing the Belarusian border.
The Americans were advised to leave Belarus through the border points with Latvia and Lithuania or by plane. The Embassy recalled that Poland closed the checkpoint at the border, and also urged not to leave because of Russia or Ukraine.
The embassy reminded citizens who are planning to travel to Belarus that they will not be able to count on the help of the US government in case of problems.
Lithuania has closed two border crossings on the border with Belarus since August 18. This decision was explained by the growing threat from the Wagner PKK mercenaries, who relocated to Belarus.
Since August 15, Latvia has mobilized additional border guards and involved in the protection of the military “in connection with the rapidly growing hybrid threat” on the border with Belarus.
