Due to the fact that the programs for the exploration of the moon stopped for 50 years, it is necessary to rebuild the technologies, complained Yuri Borisov.
The Russian space station Luna-25 fell on the surface of the Moon and crashed due to the fact that the engine was not turned off in time. This is what Roscosmos head Yuri Borisov said in an interview on Monday, August 21.
“At 14:10 (August 19, – ed.), the engines were turned on, which should have corrected and put the device in the pre-landing orbit. Unfortunately, the engine shutdown did not happen normally, according to on the cyclogram, but according to the number of the clock, and instead of the planned 84 seconds, it worked for 127 seconds. This is the main reason for the accident of the device, “he said.
Borisov assured that radio communication was stable and “we know everything about the state of the ship.”
“However, at 14:57 minutes, communication with the device stopped, attempts to restore communication were unsuccessful. Preliminary ballistic calculations showed that due to the freelance work of the corrective propulsion system, the device moved to an open lunar orbit and, in fact, , fell on the surface of the Moon,” – added the head of Roscosmos.
To justify this failure, Borisov said that “due to the interruption of monthly programs for 50 years, we have to re-study the technologies” and therefore “nothing gives guarantees.”
However, according to Borisov, “Russia should definitely participate in the lunar race.”
As you know, on August 11, the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle with the Luna-25 automatic station was launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome. After that, the device makes two trajectory corrections. On Wednesday, August 16, the automatic station entered orbit near the moon.
On August 19, Russia announced an “abnormal situation” in the mission to the Moon, and the next day they admitted that the Luna-25 apparatus was lost.
