The advanced units of the Russian army, especially in the south, often struggled with a drop in morale after the attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the rear. Morale issues can quickly escalate and spread among the enemy if one of the pressurized units is destroyed. This can lead to panic and greatly destroy the combat capability of other Russian units. This is stated in the report of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Analysts note that in the event of a breakthrough in the first line of defense, the integrity of the unified system of occupiers will be threatened, and the Ukrainian Defense Forces can take advantage of this. Also, now the enemy lacks the necessary reserves for the rotation of failed units. Therefore, the invaders want to somehow preserve the morale in the advanced units.
Recall that on August 19, unknown UAVs attacked the military airfield “Soltsy”, located in the Novgorod region of Russia. Russian strategic bombers Tu-22m3 were based at the airfield, at least two “carcasses” were destroyed.
