The head of state explained why until that time the Ukrainian defenders had not begun to actively advance.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky explained that Ukraine does not have enough weapons and other equipment to launch an active counter-offensive. The head of state said this on August 20 at a press conference with Danish Prime Minister Matte Frederiksen.
“If you have a shortage of armored vehicles, a shortage of tanks…you will just lose people. Thousands of people may die. You will walk one, two, three or five kilometers, but you will lose thousands of people. They will just die, and you will not reach the goal that we all need. This is de-occupation – complete de-occupation – of our entire territory,” explained the president.
Zelensky noted that Ukraine is waiting until it has the capacity for a counter-offensive. At the same time, the Russians, according to the president, took advantage of this moment and actively mined the territory and built fortifications.
“They built a lot of fortifications eight years ago, starting in 2015-2016… They did it in Donbas after it was conquered,” the president said.
At the same time, the head of state added that he could not criticize the partners, because Ukraine still received support from them.
It can be recalled that the previous Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba advised Western analysts to be cautious in their forecasts for Ukraine’s counter-offensive on the front.
