British intelligence writes about this in a new report for August 20.
The leadership of the Russian Aerospace Forces is likely under strong pressure to improve air defenses over western Russia, as the range of threats penetrating into Russia has increased in recent months. The pressure will especially concern the chief of staff of the PKS, Colonel-General Viktor Afzalov. Commander-in-Chief of the PKS Sergei Surovikin is still missing, he is suspected of involvement in the Wagner rebellion in June, the British Ministry of Defense reports, citing intelligence data.
The intelligence added that strikes deep inside Russia are strategically important because the president almost certainly broke into Ukraine, suggesting that this would have little direct effect on the Russians.
On the morning of August 20, Russia announced another drone attack on Kursk, Moscow and the Rostov region.
At about 4:00 am, a fire broke out on the roof of the railway station in Russian Kursk. The governor of the region, Starovoit, said that a Ukrainian drone crashed into the building. According to him, 5 people were injured.
The Russian Defense Ministry also announced an attempt by a drone to attack objects in Moscow and the region: the drone was allegedly suppressed by electronic warfare, it fell in a deserted area. No people were hurt, according to the ministry.
The Rostov region was allegedly attacked by three kamikaze drones. The governor said that they were suppressed by electronic warfare – two fell on the territory of a military unit in Kamensk, another one – a kilometer from Novoshakhtinsky.
