A group of 12 Ukrainians, one Russian and three Belarusians should conduct reconnaissance in Polish ports, install video cameras on railways and derail trains.
In Poland, a group of Ukrainian refugees recruited by the special services of the Russian Federation was exposed. They should post pro-Russian leaflets, monitor the transport of weapons to Ukraine and prepare sabotage on Polish territory. This is stated in the article published on Friday, August 18, The Washington Post.
According to Polish law enforcement, the main department of the Russian General Staff ordered recruits to conduct reconnaissance in Polish ports, install video cameras along railways and plant tracking devices in the military cargo. There are also more serious tasks – to derail trains carrying weapons to Ukraine.
Poland believes this is the most serious threat from the Russian Federation on NATO territory since the start of a full-scale war against Ukraine, the newspaper notes.
Among those detained are 12 Ukrainian refugees, one Russian and three Belarusian citizens. According to a law enforcement officer involved in the investigation, these mercenaries were ordered to commit arson and murder.
According to the Polish Internal Security Service (ABW), Moscow recruited refugees using, among other things, Russian-language Telegram channels. Advertisements for potential saboteurs were placed in job offers and rental housing. The ads promised to pay for posting anti-American and anti-NATO slogans. After that, more complex tasks are offered for a larger fee.
Recruits were paid with cryptocurrencies and bank transfers from untraceable accounts.
As the publication added, they discovered potential saboteurs by accident: a passer-by noticed a camera lens peeking out from behind the bushes in an important section of the route and reported it to the relevant authorities. Using data from the cameras and other information, law enforcement officials caught up with the entire group.
It was previously reported that Wagnerian spies who spread propaganda in Krakow and Warsaw were detained in Poland.
