States have also made other changes to allow other citizens of Ukraine to apply for status.
The United States of America has extended temporary protection for Ukrainians by 18 months in connection with the ongoing Russian invasion. This was announced by the press service of the US Department of Homeland Security on Friday, August 18.
The program will also be expanded, allowing Ukrainians who resided in the United States as of August 16, 2023 to apply for temporary protection.
In addition, students from Ukraine studying in the United States and in the country on an F-1 visa will be able to apply for a work permit and reduce their workload without losing their visa for the duration of temporary protection.
About 26,000 Ukrainians currently enjoy temporary protection in the United States, and another 166,000 may be eligible for such status.
Recall that Canada previously extended the program to support Ukrainian refugees for one year.
