The area of forest fires on the Spanish island of Tenerife has increased significantly. This was reported on August 18 by the newspaper El Pais.

It is known that the fire has covered 3200 hectares – 1.6% of the surface of the island.

Currently, approximately 3,000 people have been evacuated, and another 4,400 people are in the danger zone.

200 firefighters and 17 aviation units were involved in the fight.

“This is probably the most difficult fire that has occurred in the Canary Islands in the last 40 years,” said Canary Islands Regional President Fernando Clavijo.

Remember that on the night of August 15, a fire broke out in the national park in Tenerife. Local authorities evacuated several villages and blocked the road in the forest around the Teide volcano.

It was later learned that the fire had gotten out of control and had reached 1800 hectares.
