The explorer found some silver jewelry and a very well preserved funerary urn.
Polish archaeologist Olaf Popkiewicz discovered a 2,000-year-old Gothic cemetery during excavations near the village of Stara Rzeka. This was reported by Heritage Daily.
The work resulted in the discovery of 50 ancient burials dating back to the 4th century AD, the time when the region was inhabited by the Goths.
This led him to a large-scale study in an area of 250 square meters on the territory of the landscape park Wdecki Park Krajobrazowy, located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship of Poland.
It is noted that the Goths played an important role in the historical picture, marking the decline of the Western Roman Empire and the emergence of medieval Europe. Etymologically, these people are called Gut-þiuda (Gothic people) or Gutans (Goths). They are referred to in records as Gutons, probably the earliest predecessors of the Goths associated with the Welbark culture. They settled along the lower reaches of the Vistula River in Poland in the first century AD, which is documented.
Many high-status grave goods were found in the current excavations, including two silver neck ornaments, two silver brooches, silver beaded beads, a snake ornament, and a well-preserved urn.
Previous surveys of the area discovered a Gothic settlement near the village of Osie with a spatial arrangement of artifacts dating back to the fourth century AD.
