The NAPC said that Alibaba Group continues to work in Russia and provides its platforms for the sale of goods from copper exported from the occupied territories of Ukraine. On the territory of the aggressor country, the AliExpress online commerce platform, managed by a Russian subsidiary of the Alibaba group, Alibaba.COM (RU) LLC, has gained the most popularity. And the owner of this company is Aliexpress Russia Holding Private Ltd, registered in Singapore.
This year, this company provides an international platform for the sale of foreign goods, and the profit of Alibaba.COM (RU) last year amounted to about 160 million dollars. And in April, Reuters reported that the Chinese company Quzhou Nova purchased at least 3,220 tons of copper alloy for a total of $7.4 million. at the Debaltsevsky plant of metallurgical engineering. Procurement continued from October 8, 2022 to March 24, 2023. All this copper was exported from the occupied territories through the port of Novorossiysk. From this copper, a Chinese company produces goods sold on Alibaba platforms.
Also, the NAPC reported that Alibaba resorted to censorship of Ukrainian content on its platforms related to the war. In particular, in March last year, Alibaba blocked the profile of a Ukrainian streamer, which had more than 268 thousand subscribers on AliExpress, for reporting on the war. However, pro-Russian messages on the platform do not lend themselves to the platform.
These facts may indicate that the company supports Russian aggression not only financially by paying taxes, but also ideologically, the NAPC stressed.
Recall that in July the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption made the British concern Unilever in the list of sponsors of the war. This company remains on the Russian market and pays significant taxes to the budget, “supporting the economy of the aggressor and contributing to the continuation of Russia’s war against Ukraine.”
