After a long illness, on August 16, the former commander of the Eastern Military District, the former head of the headquarters of the Russian Armed Forces grouping in Syria and the former head of the occupying army in Ukraine, Colonel General Gennady Zhidko, died in Moscow. He was 57 years old.

The death of an international criminal, on whose hands the blood of thousands of people, was announced by the governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Mikhail Degtyarev.
In 2016, Zhidko served as chief of staff of the Russian Armed Forces in Syria. In 2018, he was appointed commander of the troops of the Eastern Military District, in 2021 he received the post of Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation – Head of the Main Military-Political Directorate of the RF Armed Forces. And in 2022, Zhidko again became the commander of the troops of the Eastern District and replaced General Dvornikov in May 2022 in the leadership of the occupying army. After failures at the front, he was sent back to Siberia.
The general was a lot nervous and just a little short of retirement.
