Moscow has been importing Iranian-made systems since September 2022. Local production is likely to allow Russia to establish a more reliable supply of strike drones. The effectiveness of the Shaheds in Ukraine has varied, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine have proven that they can neutralize most of these drones. This was announced by the British Ministry of Defense on August 16 on Twitter.
British intelligence believes that the occupiers want to switch to full-fledged domestic production of kamikaze drones in the coming months. At the same time, Russia depends on components from Iran, and finished Iranian weapons continue to be delivered mainly through the Caspian Sea.
Recall that in June it became known that on the territory of the Russian Federation they began to build a plant for the production of Iranian Shahed-type kamikaze drones. The White House stated that the enterprise was being built in the so-called Alabuga special economic zone, hundreds of kilometers east of Moscow.
