Despite the fact that Russian pensioners are considered the most susceptible to propaganda, the number of jailed and convicted among the elderly is significant.
In Russia, since the beginning of the Russian Federation’s massive invasion of Ukraine, hundreds of elderly people have been detained and convicted for supporting Ukraine and condemning the war. This was reported on Tuesday, August 15, by the Russian information publication Nestka, based on an analysis of data from the human rights resource OVD-Info.
It noted that at least 46 Russian citizens over the age of 60 have been charged with criminal charges related to their anti-war stance, and at least 165 more people aged 60 to 84 have been detained in anti-war actions.
According to Nestka, elderly prisoners are sent to the colonies, despite serious illnesses, and are fined hundreds of thousands and even millions of rubles, which they cannot afford to pay from their pensions.
“At least 15 elderly Russians are in pre-trial detention, in compulsory treatment or already serving sentences in a colony,” the publication stated.
At the same time, as the newspaper notes, the majority of pensioners in the Russian Federation support the killings of Ukrainians.
Remember that the majority of Russian citizens believe that it is impossible under any circumstances to use nuclear weapons in a war with Ukraine. But some respondents would approve of an attempt to launch a nuclear strike.
