Turkey has launched a new anti-terrorist operation in northern Syria to establish a “security zone” with a depth of 30 kilometers. This was stated by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Anadolu report on Wednesday, June 1st.
“A new phase of building (in Syria) a” security zone “30 kilometers inland from the Turkish border is beginning. We are clearing Tall Ryfat and Munbich from terrorists,” Erdogan said.
He added that after that, new stages will follow to clean up the other borders of Turkey.
“Let’s see what will be the reaction to Turkey’s legitimate security measures. Who will support Ankara?” The president added.
Erdogan had earlier mentioned about Turkey’s new military operations on its southern borders. Ankara said its goal was to fight the terrorist organizations PKK (Kurdish Workers’ Party) and YPG (People’s Protection Units, part of the Syrian Democratic Forces alliance).
Earlier, Turkey closed the skies for Russian aircraft flying to Syria. Ankara issues permission for Russian airlines to fly to Syria through its territory every three months. The last permit has expired.
