Participants in the “scheme” offered conscripts for money fictitious medical certificates of unfitness for military service for health reasons.
The Security Service of Ukraine detained the head of the military medical commission of the Zhytomyr region, who was doing business with the dodgers, helping them travel abroad. The SBU press service reported this on Tuesday, August 15.
The leader of the VLK had accomplices – employees of the regional military registration and enlistment office, a lawyer and an official of the local hospital. They offered potential conscripts fake medical certificates about being unfit for military service for health reasons.
Severe diagnoses were put on forged documents, allowing draft dodgers to avoid conscription and travel abroad. The cost of services ranges from $2,500 to $5,000. Participants of the “scheme” split the proceeds among themselves after each transaction.
According to the investigation, there was a clear distribution of criminal “duties” between the defendants. The lawyer selected potential “clients”, the chairman of the VLK and the official of the medical institution forged medical certificates, and the workers of the regional military registration and enlistment office “accompanyed” them to their department .
Law enforcement officials detained the defendants “in the heat” during the transfer of a bribe from an evader. During searches of offices and residences of participants in the “scheme” they found more than 35,000 dollars and documents with evidence of illegal activities.
Suspicions were reported among the detainees. They are currently in jail. The issue of bringing to justice all participants in the illegal scheme is being resolved.
Recall that in the Khmelnytsky region, the police detained a military territorial recruitment center that established a procedure for issuing fabricated certificates of unfitness for service. In the Ternopil region, the military commissar was exposed to the crossing of draft dodgers abroad.
