The military of the Russian Federation opened “precautionary” fire on a dry cargo ship in the Black Sea, on its way to a Ukrainian port.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it had stopped a foreign vessel in the Black Sea on its way to the port of Izmail in the Odessa region. This was stated in the statement of the Russian department on Sunday, August 13.
It was noted that at 6:40 in the southwestern part of the Black Sea, a cargo ship was sighted. Sukra Okan under the flag of Palau, which ended up in a Ukrainian port. The ship allegedly did not respond to the so-called “demands to stop, given the subject of transportation of prohibited goods.”
“To forcibly stop the ship from a Russian warship, preemptive fire was opened from automatic small arms,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The Russians say that to “inspect” the dry cargo ship from the board of the patrol ship Vasily Bykov a Ka-29 helicopter was raised with a group of military personnel, who then boarded a foreign ship and inspected it.
“After the work of the inspection team on board Sukra Okan The ship continues to move to the port of Izmail,” the Russian Defense Ministry added.
It will be recalled that on July 17, Russia announced its withdrawal from the grain deal, which was valid for one year and allowed Ukrainian food to be exported from Black Sea ports. Now Russian troops regularly attack southern Ukraine and destroy port infrastructure. In addition, the Russians threatened to sink ships bound for Ukrainian ports.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry warned that all ships going to Russian ports or harbors in the temporarily occupied territories will be considered carrying military cargo.
On August 10, the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that Ukraine had opened corridors in the Black Sea for merchant ships.
