Wealthy Russians cannot do business, as usual, while the Kremlin wages war against the Ukrainian people, noted Washington.
Four Russian billionaires are on the US sanctions list. This was announced by the US Treasury’s Office for Foreign Assets Control on Friday, August 11.
In particular, new restrictions were introduced against Petr Aven, Mikhail Fridman, German Khan and Alexei Kuzmichev. All of them are founders and leaders of the Russian international private financial and investment consortium Alpha groupwhich includes Alfa Bank.
The Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, registered in Moscow, also fell under sanctions.
The department recalled that earlier restrictions against Russian oligarchs were introduced by EU countries, Australia, Great Britain, Canada and New Zealand.
“Russia’s prosperous elites must abandon the notion that they can do business as usual while the Kremlin wages war against the Ukrainian people. Our international coalition will continue to hold accountable those who contributed to the unjust and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine,” commented on this decision. US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo.
Recall that the UK lifted sanctions against Russian oligarch Oleg Tinkov. He strongly condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, calling the war unleashed by the Russian Federation “insane”. The billionaire officially renounced Russian citizenship.
