The military said he decided to leave Russia because he did not want to participate in the bloody war unleashed by his state.
A second Russian official fled to Lithuania. He crossed the border illegally and sought political asylum. On Friday, August 11, the BBC reported.
It was noted that Lieutenant Ivan Korolev illegally crossed the Lithuanian border, managed to reach Vilnius and was detained by operatives of the Lithuanian border service at the Vilnius bus station on August 10.
The serviceman served in the military unit 59313-39 – this is the Joint Strategic Command of the Eastern Military District. In normal times, this unit is deployed in the village of Teysin, Khabarovsk Territory.
After being detained in Vilnius, the serviceman was returned to the border checkpoint, where he stayed for another day and from where he contacted the BBC journalist.
“On August 3, I decided to leave the Russian Federation due to the fact that I do not want to participate in the bloody war unleashed by my state. Now I am in the Republic of Lithuania, where I asked for political asylum,” Korolev said.
According to him, he participated in the so-called SVO, but all the time it was on the territory of the Russian Federation, he was not on the territory of Ukraine.
“We are engaged in supplying ammunition to Russian troops. We receive ammunition from all over Russia, from all units, from all arsenals and distribute them to brigades, units directly in Ukraine,” Korolyov said.
The fugitive’s request for asylum in Lithuania was accepted for consideration, after which the man was sent to the migration center in Pabrade.
In June, Lithuania granted temporary asylum to military pilot Dmitry Mishov, who did not want to continue participating in the war.
It was previously reported that more than a thousand Russians opposed to the war had received asylum in Germany.
It was also reported that France would grant asylum to Russians fleeing the mobilization.
