The maneuvers involved the navies of India, the United States and Japan. They will last until August 21.
On the east coast of Australia, the naval exercises Malabar began, in which the armed forces of India, the United States and Japan will participate. About this August 11 reported Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles.
According to him, the maneuvers of Australia, India, the United States and Japan began in Sydney and will last until August 21 along the eastern coast of the continent.
Six ships will participate in the exercises: two each from Australia and India, one each from Japan and the United States.
“The maneuvers of the Malabar Navy are aimed at strengthening interoperability between the partners. As part of the exercise, the combat coherence of the ships will be worked out when conducting joint navigation, anti-submarine and anti-aircraft operations, and artillery firing, Marles said.
Malabar military exercises have been held since 1992 with the participation of India and the United States. In 2007, Australian ships participated in the maneuvers on an ad hoc basis, but the country later joined on a permanent basis.
Since 2015, Japan has joined Malabar. In 2023, Australia will host the exercise on its territory for the first time.
It will be recalled that in July, the United States and Australia conducted large-scale Talisman Saber exercises with the participation of more than 30 thousand military personnel. This year, 11 partner countries joined the maneuvers.
