The Security Service of Ukraine reported the suspicion to the leader of the banned Communist Party, Petro Symonenko. He is accused of calling for the seizure of power and justifying the war crimes of the occupying Russian army. At the beginning of the invasion, the ex-people’s deputy was taken to Russia by a special detachment, which was sent to the Kyiv region by the Russian authorities.

In order to take Simonenko and his family out of the captured village of Berezovka in the Makarovsky district, the Kremlin ordered a detachment of Russian special forces to be sent there. Upon the arrival of the special forces of the Russian Federation, the ex-people’s deputy personally met them, and then quartered them in his own house. From March 4 to March 8, 2022, the occupying special unit carried out the “escort” of Simonenko and his relatives from behind enemy checkpoints to the territory of Belarus. From there, he moved to the Russian Federation, the SBU said in a statement.
Already in Russia, Simonenko became deputy chairman of the communist Kremlin organization Gennady Zyuganov. After that, he began to travel to “friendly” countries in the Russian Federation and speak there for the war against Ukraine. He promoted the Kremlin’s policy at meetings in Havana and Minsk.
In October last year, the ex-people’s deputy took part in the so-called “22nd” International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties “, which was held in the city of Havana in Cuba. During his speech at the “forum”, Symonenko tried to legitimize the seizure of part of the territory of Ukraine and the activities of the L/DPR puppet terrorist formations controlled by Russia.
Pyotr Symonenko did not publicly react to the announcement of suspicions to him.
