Fire engulfed Maui – one of the largest islands of the Hawaiian archipelago, popular among tourists.
Wildfires on the island of Maui in the Hawaiian archipelago have killed at least 36 people. Reuters reported this on August 10.
It is known that the fire destroyed most of the resort town of Lahaina, approximately 270 buildings were destroyed or damaged. Fleeing from the elements, the panicked people fled to the ocean, where they were rescued by the US Coast Guard.
About 11,000 people were evacuated from the island. Despite the closure of 16 roads, the island’s airport operated as normal, and airlines reduced fares.
The fire left thousands of people without electricity and phone service.
The National Weather Service said the Maui fire was caused by dry vegetation, strong winds and low humidity. The fire was caused by intense heat, and its rapid spread was facilitated by Hurricane Dora, which was raging in the Pacific Ocean.

The wind brought down power poles and transformers, which ignited the flames, knocked out communications, then 80MPH gusts sent the flames across the landscape.
