Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrsky, commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, announced this on August 9 in a commentary to Ukrayinska Pravda.
The goal of the enemy is to break through the defenses of our troops and go directly to Kupyansk. The fighting is now unusually intense. Separate positions have changed hands several times over the past few days,” the general said.
According to him, at the same time, the enemy, with an offensive from the Novoselovskoye area, made an attempt to cut the group of defenders with a blow to the flank and surround part of the units of the brigade holding the defense there, but to no avail.
Our fighters courageously hold the defense, repelling all attempts of the enemy to move forward, the commander emphasized.
