Chief sanitary doctor Igor Kuzin recommends “waiting with watermelons grown in the Odessa region.”
In the regions affected by flooding as a result of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, the water is cleaning itself, but there are still traces of fecal contamination. This was announced on the air of the telethon of the Deputy Minister of Health, Chief Sanitary Doctor Igor Kuzin, Interfax-Ukraine writes.
“As for soils, we continue to carry out research on toxicological indicators, but in the vast majority of settlements, we see an over-specification in terms of parasitological indicators, that is, it is a sign of fecal pollution ,” Kuzin said.
The Deputy Minister noted that the sewage pollution and parasitic load in the soil in the flood-affected regions do not allow the cultivation of vegetables there.
“Products harvested from such lands or planted in private households must be washed with clean water of guaranteed quality so that there is no outbreak of diseases,” he said.
In addition, Kuzin recommends “waiting with watermelons grown in the Odessa region.”
He added that “under the influence of sunlight, microorganisms quickly die in the environment, so the risks of dust infection are minimal, the biggest risk is toxic damage or an allergic load.”
The ban on catching fish, as explained by Kuzin, was extended due to the fact that fish are often affected by botulinum toxin, which can cause a dangerous infectious disease, botulism.
“We are recording isolated cases at the moment, but this is due to the fact that a severe ban began to operate soon after the attack. Such a ban will still be in effect for some time, ” he says.
Recall that on the evening of June 6, the Russians blew up the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. As a result, this structure was completely destroyed by the waves of the Kakhovka reservoir. There are 80 communities in the flood zone.
By the end of July, about 15% of water samples in the affected areas did not meet the standard.
