Norway has declared its readiness to accept 550 wounded soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for treatment in hospitals in Norway. This was announced on Tuesday, May 31, by the head of the Norwegian Ministry of Justice and Emergency, Emily Enger Mehl, NRK television reports.
The politician noted that the country is one of the largest participants in the medical evacuation scheme for civilians affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and will now also receive wounded military personnel.
Mehl stressed that Norway has not yet conducted medical evacuation of wounded soldiers during the fighting, and therefore it must act within the current regulations for medical evacuation, which now provides for the placement of 550 injured.
He added that the Ukrainian military could be admitted to Oslo University Hospital and Sunnaas Hospital. Medical facilities are ready to treat burns, injuries and perform rehabilitation.
Recall that the Norwegian government has decided to join EU sanctions and close the land border for trucks from Russia, and ports for Russian ships.
Earlier, Norway provided NOK 200 million to support Ukraine. The money will be used to pay salaries to medical staff, teachers and civil servants, as well as to pay pensions and social assistance.
