I think that what happened and continues to happen in Niger was not provoked by Russia or Wagner, but they tried to take advantage of it, the American politician said in an interview with the BBC.
The foreign minister also noted that Washington is concerned about the desire of the “Wagnerites” to prove themselves in some parts of the Sahel region. Blinken added that wherever Russia’s war criminals go there is “death, destruction and exploitation” and that “the danger has increased, not decreased.”
The American diplomat said that in Niger “it repeats what happened in other countries, where they (the mercenaries of Yevgeny Prigozhin – ed.) did not bring anything but bad things.”
Recall that in Niger, a group of military announced the removal of democratically elected President Mohammed Bazum and his government from power. Former Ukrainian Ambassador to France Oleg Shamshur said that in the event of an armed conflict in Niger, the Wagnerites can help the putschists, since Russia is interested in overthrowing the legitimate government.
