EU leaders at the summit, which will last May 30-31, made a political decision to impose an oil embargo against Russia.
The sixth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation implies another restriction, which has not been reported previously. On Tuesday, May 31, The Wall Street Journal wrote.
The publication, citing its sources to officials and diplomats, said the insurance of tankers carrying Russian oil to anywhere in the world would also be banned.
“These sanctions could damage Russia’s efforts to sell its oil to Asia, as European companies insure most of the world’s oil trade,” the newspaper notes.
At the same time, the authors of the article noted that this step could fuel inflation.
It does not indicate when such a ban may take effect.
“Perhaps immediately or after the transition period,” – said the publication.
Recall, on May 31, the heads of EU countries agreed on the sixth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, under which oil imports are limited by two-thirds.
According to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, six packages of EU sanctions against Russia have severely hit Russia’s economy.
