Since the beginning of the war, the occupiers have forcibly relocated hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian citizens, including Ukrainian children, to the territory of the Russian Federation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine responded to the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the simplified entry into Russian citizenship of Ukrainian orphans or those left without parental care. Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers this order as an attempt by the Kremlin to legalize the illegal movement of Ukrainian children from the occupied territories to Russia. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“By his command, Vladimir Putin actually legalized the abduction of children from the territory of Ukraine,” the report said.
It was noted that the actions of the Russian Federation grossly violate the Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War of 1949, which provides for the obligation of the occupying state not to change the civil status of children, as also the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child of 1989.
“Under international law, Russia’s actions may also qualify as the forced transfer of children from one group of people to another,” the statement said.
It is reported that since the beginning of the war, the occupiers have forcibly relocated hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian citizens, including Ukrainian children, to the territory of the Russian Federation.
“We call on the international community to take decisive action against Moscow, in particular, to increase the pressure of sanctions to force it to stop the aggression against Ukraine and bold violations of international law,” the Foreign Ministry said.
As noted in the diplomatic department, serious crimes against children committed by Russian officials and military personnel on the territory of Ukraine will be investigated, and those responsible will be prosecuted. Ukraine will take all possible measures, especially at the international level, to ensure the protection of the rights and interests of abducted Ukrainian children and their return to their homeland.
For example, Putin simplified the granting of citizenship to Ukrainian orphans.
Earlier it was reported that the authorities of the aggressor country Russia are working on changing the law to simplify the procedure for adoption of children from Ukraine.
