The Pinocchio story popularized by the studio in the 1940s has much more distant origins.
The classic story of “Pinocchio”, the wooden puppet created by Geppetto who comes to life after a visit from the blue fairy, received a live-action adaptation directly into the disney+ on the last year.
However, this isn’t the first time that “Pinocchio” has received a makeover. Although the story told by Disney in the animation released in 1940 is widely popular and is part of the childhood of several children around the globe, it is, in fact, an adapted version of the original story written by Carlo Collodi in 1883.
Approached in a more intense and less childish way, the adventures explored by the character were first described in comic strips in the Italian newspaper “II Giornale per i Bambini”, but soon after, the narratives were compiled and transformed into a book entitled “As Aventuras de Pinocchio” . But what was the plot?
The true story of Pinocchio
In the plot developed by collodiGeppetto receives a talking piece of wood as a gift, which he decides to carve and transform into Pinocchio, in order to fulfill his dream and finally have a kind son to love and care for.
But Geppetto’s plans end up getting a little out of control soon after the doll takes shape, as he kicks the old carpenter’s nose, starting to behave disrespectfully, not listening to his father’s advice and manipulating him to get the things he wants. wished.
Furthermore, unlike the Disney version, in the first Pinocchio story, Jiminy Cricket does not have his advice heard. In fact, the boy ends up getting irritated with his opinions, and ends up hitting him with a hammer, causing the end of the poor friend.
Nevertheless, Pinocchio continued to perform various mischief wherever he went, even stealing the school books that Geppetto had fought so hard to buy, only to sell and use the money to buy tickets to a puppet show.
As a result of this last attitude, Pinocchio ended up being assaulted by a duo formed by a fox and a cat but, when trying to escape, he ended up having his brief life tragically ended.
However, the death of Pinocchio caused several criticisms of the work. Therefore, collodi decided to give the character a new ending by including the Blue Fairy, who was responsible for bringing the lying boy back to life.
Even with the second chance to improve his behavior, Pinocchio did not and continued trying to take advantage of all situations, even traveling to the Land of Toys, a place where no child needs to study.
Even so, the result of the lack of knowledge brings an effect to visitors to the place: they end up being transformed into donkeys, a fact that happens to Pinocchio, but that does not prevent him from continuing to carry out various adventures until his second death.
Luckily for Pinocchio, the plot ends up revealing that all the last events were just dreams of the puppet, in which the Blue Fairy says before he wakes up that “a boy who has a good heart deserves forgiveness”. So when he awakens, he is no longer just a wooden doll, but a real boy.
The moral of the story
In the original plot, the lesson that the author wants to pass on is that despite making mistakes, Pinocchio realizes the problem, regrets it and becomes someone better, creating a parallel between fiction and reality, as these actions are part of the daily lives of human beings. humans, showing that this process is important for maturation.
