ZNPP reactors are designed to withstand significant damage, so a possible explosion of explosives should not damage them.
Despite the fact that Russian and Ukrainian officials have sharpened their rhetoric around the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP, the Russian Federation is unlikely to conduct a nuclear provocation at the ZNPP. This is stated in the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) for Tuesday, July 4.
Analysts note that the Russian Federation is more focused on accusing Ukraine of irresponsible actions around the ZNPP, including creating conditions for a possible fake attack, than on real actions.
The report states that the likelihood that the Russian Federation could cause a large-scale radiation incident is small, as the ZNPP reactors are designed to withstand significant damage.
Ukrainian military sources also confirmed this assessment and noted that even if the probable IEDs exploded, they would not destroy the reactor, but would rather give the false impression that Ukrainian forces fired at the ZNPP.
It will be recalled that the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that foreign objects similar to explosive devices were placed on the outer roof of the third and fourth power units of the ZNPP.
