Sources for The Washington Post said the test “identified” the substance found as cocaine.
The US Secret Service is investigating how the white powder ended up on the White House grounds. According to the initial version, it could be cocaine. This was reported by the American newspaper The Washington Post, citing the representative of the service Anthony Guglielmi.
A suspicious substance was found on the night of Sunday, June 2. A firefighter from the Hazardous Substances Group, who arrived at the scene, reported the discovery: “We see a yellow tape that says ‘cocaine hydrochloride.’
Media sources said the substance tested positive for cocaine, but the content was found to be low.
Secret Service spokesman Guglielmi said in a comment that experts are conducting further tests on the substance and find out how it got there.
He said that after the discovery of a suspicious substance, officials at the White House were briefly evacuated. US President Joseph Biden was not in the building at the time. Guglielmi added that an investigation is currently underway into the cause and method of the substance entering the White House.
The official declined to say where the substance was found or how it was packaged. However, he said that the powder was discovered by representatives of the Secret Service, going beyond the perimeter of the building.
Recall that in Moscow’s Sheremetyevo, a passenger, while inspecting things, swallowed a ziplock with drugs and died in front of airport staff.
