In Kyrgyzstan, it was allowed to use matronyms instead of patronymics. The corresponding decision was made by the country’s Constitutional Court, reports 24.kg.
“The law should contain legal provisions that give this category of citizens such an opportunity and not create conditions for violations of the principles of equality and the prohibition of discrimination based on gender,” said of the message.
However, the decision states that such a choice should be given only to adult citizens.
This decision was made when considering the claim of a woman who asked for permission to indicate her mother instead of a patronymic in the child’s documents. The court ruled that a mother’s child “in a traditional society can be a victim of bullying and stigmatization,” and rejected the woman. However, the decision clarified that after reaching the age of majority, a citizen, for one reason or another, who does not accept a male name as an element of his full name, he should have the right to choose between a patronymic and a match. .
It was previously reported that Kyrgyzstan plans to translate state institutions into the Kyrgyz language.
Also, Kyrgyzstan is considering options for abandoning the Cyrillic alphabet. The representatives proposed to translate the alphabet into Latin.
