Ukraine understands that before the war it would not be a member of the Alliance, but an invitation now would be a big incentive.
President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the American leader Joe Biden to invite Ukraine to NATO today, even though it can only become a member of the Alliance after the war. He said this in an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett.
Thus, Zelensky noted that Biden decides whether the country will become a member of the North Atlantic Alliance.
“He supports our future in NATO, but an invitation now would be a big help for Ukrainian soldiers,” Zelensky said.
Ukraine understands that the country will not be admitted to NATO until the end of the war, but it is important for Ukrainians to feel the support of the allies in this matter, the president said.
“We all understand. But this signal is really very important,” he stressed, adding that it depends on Biden’s decision.
Earlier, Zelensky requested an algorithm for Ukraine’s entry into NATO and called the conditions for his trip to Vilnius.
