This week, Zuppi met in Moscow with one of President Vladimir Putin’s advisers, Yuri Ushakov, and the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill.
The Special Representative of Pope Francis, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, after visiting Moscow, said that the Vatican does not have a single peace plan for the war in Ukraine, and that his mission is focused on humanitarian issues.
“There is no peace plan, no mediation… There is a great desire to stop violence and save human life, starting with protecting the smallest,” Zuppi told RAI.
Zuppi said his mission to Moscow regarding the war in Ukraine focused on humanitarian issues and did not include any discussion of a peace plan.
This week, Zuppi met in Moscow with one of President Vladimir Putin’s advisers, Yuri Ushakov, and the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill. Earlier in June, he also visited Kyiv for talks with President Zelensky.
According to the Pope’s representative, all the meetings are “important, especially in the humanitarian aspects, in which we are committed.”
Zuppi added that he will meet with Pope Francis in the coming days to discuss the results of the meetings.
Remember, on June 6, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, met with Mateo Zuppi, who visited our country. The Vatican envoy also spoke with the head of the UGCC and some officials, in particular, Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets – they discussed the deportation of Ukrainian children. Zuppi also visited Bucha, where he honored the memory of the dead.
