The central regions of China are suffering from abnormal rainfall – in Hunan province, more than 50 thousand people are in the disaster zone and almost 7 thousand have been evacuated to safety. Xinhua reported this in connection with local authorities on Sunday, July 2.
The heavy rain in Hunan has not let up since Thursday. According to the local meteorological service, 137.4 millimeters of rain per hour was recorded on Friday, which is a record for the region.
The typhoon damaged more than 1,300 houses and crops in an area of nearly 2,900 hectares.
Other regions of China have also been affected by heavy rains in recent days, specifically, the central province of Sichuan and the municipality of Chongqing and the southern provinces of Guangdong, Fujian and Guangxi. There, the rain caused flooding and landslides.
Meteorologists’ forecasts are still disappointing. In the coming days, the warning of an increased risk of heavy rain and thunderstorms with strong winds continues.
Earlier it was reported that in southwest China near the city of Chongqing, six people were killed and nine were injured due to landslides and rocks that caused a bus to pass through the road due to prolonged rain.
