No country wants to have a monopoly on critical minerals and technology.
CIA director William Burns said the US should diversify its supply chains by phasing out goods and services from China, Reuters reports.
He noted that China is the only country that “aims to change the global order” and is building “economic, military and technological power” for it. However, refusing to cooperate with China is “meaningless.”
“In today’s world, no country wants to be at the mercy of a ‘cartel of one’ over critical minerals and technology,” Burns said.
The CIA director noted that a reasonable distance from China requires reducing risk and diversifying supply chains, protecting the US’s technological advantage and investing in industrial capacity.
Earlier, China submitted an ultimatum to the United States for the continuation of military-to-military dialogue.
