On Friday, June 30, EU leaders decided to extend the economic sanctions imposed in connection with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine for another six months. The corresponding decision was made by the European Council, Radio Liberty correspondent Rikard Jozwiak said on Twitter.
According to him, Hungary first demanded an assessment of the impact of the sanctions. However, Budapest eventually gave the green light, given the Commission’s evaluation of the sanctions, which is expected soon.
The European Union imposed the first sanctions against Russia back in 2014 in response to the occupation of part of the territory of Ukraine by the Russians. These sanctions were expanded after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Recall that on June 23, the 11th package of sanctions of the European Union against Russia came into force. In particular, the list includes 87 entities that support Russia’s military defense complex. Also under the sanctions were four Iranian manufacturers of UAVs.
