The riots began after two policemen stopped a car on Tuesday for violating traffic rules. One of the police officers aimed a weapon at the driver, and when the car started moving, he fired. The young man died soon after.
The death of the guy led to riots and mass pogroms. In several French cities, protesters set fire to cars, blocked streets, robbed shops, and pelted police with stones and fireworks.
At least 667 people were arrested across the country last night.
