We will have to chart the path to shape the prospect of Ukraine’s accession to NATO, which we opened in 2008 in Bucharest, Macron said, speaking with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the Elysee Palace in Paris, writes Euractiv.
According to him, at the summit in Vilnius, NATO will decide on further support for Ukraine.
The decisions we take will oblige us for years to come – I mean, first of all, support for Ukraine, in which we must make long-term commitments, Macron stressed.
The French President noted that the allies are helping Ukraine “to reform the Ukrainian armed forces, promote interoperability with the forces of the North Atlantic Alliance and provide support in the non-lethal sector.”
Recall, the summit of NATO leaders will be held July 11-12 in Vilnius. Contrary to stereotypes, France and Macron personally have changed their “cautious” position and are now lobbying for Kyiv’s invitation to NATO.
