The handover ceremony for the 14 combat vehicles took place in Szczecin in northern Poland and was attended by Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak.
At the port of the Polish city of Szczecin on Wednesday, June 28, 14 Abrams tanks arrived from the United States were unloaded. This was announced by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Facebook.
“Today, the first elements of our “armored curtain” have arrived at the port of Szczecin: 14 Abrams tanks are being unloaded today. The strength of the Polish army is growing every day!” he wrote.
Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak took part in the ceremony of handing over combat vehicles.
The day before, he said that a ship with 14 Abrams tanks in the M1A1 version would arrive in Poland. In addition, two more companies of tanks will be delivered to the country this year, so the Polish army will have a battalion of Abrams M1A1s by the end of the year.
Recall that in early January, Poland signed an agreement to purchase from the United States 116 Abrams tanks in the M1A1 version, which are already operational.
In July 2022, Poland received the first 28 Abrams tanks from the US under a contract providing for the purchase of 250 new tanks from the M1A2 SEPv3 version.
