The Security Service of Ukraine reported that the counterintelligence unit of the SBU in hot pursuit detained “an agent of the Russian special services who corrected the Russian missile attack on a cafe in the center of Kramatorsk on June 27.”
According to the head of the SBU, Vasily Malyuk, the detained man turned out to be a “reactivated” agent of the main department of the Russian General Staff.
“On June 27, he was given the task of finding out if the aforementioned cafe is open and recording the presence of guests. To carry out the hostile instructions, the GRU agent made a secret video filming of the establishment and cars parked nearby. After that, the defendant sent the obtained file to Russian military intelligence. Upon receiving this information, the Russian invaders fired at a cafe where there were people,” the SBU wrote.
The jailed man is said to have worked for a local gas transportation company, but was recruited remotely by Russian security forces, who “activated” him after a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The Russian Defense Ministry did not comment on the strike in Kramatorsk.
