The Lithuanian government has already acquired two Nasams launchers, which will be transferred to the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Air defense is key in Ukraine’s fight against the aggressor. On June 28, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda announced this on Twitter.
I look forward to new collective decisions to support Ukraine at the NATO summit in Vilnius. Total to victory! – the message says.
As you know, the NASAMS mobile complex is an American-Norwegian technology. The battery consists of nine launchers, each can fire up to six missiles, one NTAS optoelectronic guidance system and three radar stations.
NASAMS can use AMRAAM advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles, AMRAAM-ER and AIM-9X extended-range air-to-air missiles.
Recall that Ukraine sent a request to the United States for the purchase of a NASAMS air defense system, which includes: one AN / MPQ-64F1 Sentinel radar, a fire control center, an unnamed number of launchers, a secure communications system and other equipment.
At the end of May, it became known that the US State Department approved the possible military sales of the NASAMS system by the government of Ukraine. It was about the possible supply of air defense systems and related equipment at an estimated cost of 285 million dollars.
