In February 2023, the Swedish government allocated one of its largest military aid packages to Ukraine, which for the first time included CV 90 infantry fighting vehicles.
Ukraine was supposed to receive 51 CV9040C infantry fighting vehicles with Archer artillery mounts from Sweden.
The combat vehicles are equipped with 40 mm automatic cannons, smoke grenade launchers and machine guns. The automatic cannon can fire against infantry, armored vehicles and air targets at a distance of up to four kilometers.
Also in one of the Associated Press photos, a Ukrainian soldier is seen wearing the sleeve insignia of the 21st Separate Mechanized Brigade. It is likely that this brigade will be armed with all the CV 9040C combat vehicles that are being transferred to Ukraine.
Since March, the Ukrainian military has been trained on several types of weapons and military equipment and, according to local publications, returned to Ukraine in May.
It should be noted that Sweden for its own BMP CV 9040C uses AMAP armored modules from the German company IBD Deisenroth Engineering, which provides protection against a 30-mm armor-piercing feathered projectile.
Overall, Sweden has hundreds of IFVs, meaning that there is still the possibility that additional IFVs will be sent to Ukraine later.
